Drainflow Carries Out Groundwork Checks on a West London Build
Acton is a key development zone for commercial builds like this new data centre in West London, so construction moves fast, but aggregate, silt, and site washings go straight into fresh drainage runs during construction leaving a mess underground. Before the data centre can go live, therefore, those pipes need to run clear and show no structural faults. Drainflow was contracted to carry out a pre-handover clean and survey.
The Drainflow team brought down our combination tanker and CCTV survey kit to clear the system and get the developer the proof they needed for handover.
Flushing Out Construction Debris
The first job for the Drainflow team was tackling the build-up inside the pipework. Construction sites naturally deposit sand, gravel, and concrete washings into new drainage runs. To shift the debris, we set up our combination unit and support van inside the perimeter barrier.
Our combination tanker ran high-pressure water jets through rear-facing bomb nozzles. These traction heads use backward-firing water jets to drive the hose deep down the line while scouring heavy silt and site washings off the pipe walls.
As the nozzle pulled the loosened aggregate back toward the entry manhole, our high-volume vacuum hose sucked it straight out of the chamber, stopping debris from washing downstream into the main sewer.
Running the CCTV Camera Crawlers
With jetting finished, the clean pipe walls gave our robotic crawler a clear path through the system for the CCTV drain survey. Operating from inside our mobile van rig, our survey engineer controlled the pan-and-tilt camera head using joysticks from a multi-screen control console.
As the crawler drove each pipe run, the engineer monitored real-time distance counters and live-coded observations, checking for joint displacement or crushed walls caused by heavy site plant driving overhead.
Everything was catalogued into a WRC-compliant report complete with slope graphs and HD video footage, giving the developer hard, audit-ready proof of a flawless installation.
